He is a pioneer in minimally invasive cardiac surgery in India and has performed over 18,000 Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeries to date. He also performed the world’s 1st awake open heart surgery on a 74-year-old patient with aortic valve replacement without a ventilator, even when the heart was stopped, in April 2002. He is a recipient of the Harvard medical international's lifetime achievement award for medical excellence in India and The Karnataka Rajyotsava award.
